Love and Freckles

Live a Life of Love

0 notes

This picture is the setting of my not-so-lazy Sunday afternoon. After a quick, completely healthy, semi-unhealthy trip to Sonic with Brother B that included a traditional phone call to M, I came to a favorite collegiate study spot called Bluestem Bistro. On any given night, one can come here, order a Chai Tea Latte, find fight for a table, and work the night away. It’s visitors include an array of social groups, which is one of the things I love the most about it. I am an avid people watcher and, while it becomes distracting at times, Bluestem is just the place for that. Today, I’m working on the take-home final for one of my half-semester classes and the study guide for the other half-semester class. Trying to work on homework at my little white house is difficult because, not only do some of my favorite people to talk to reside there, but my bed and TV do as well. Bluestem is the perfect place to get away from those distractions and….*ahem* DO WORK!!

The past week has been….

stressful. exciting. full of learning experiences. exhausting. fun. full of laughter.

In the past week, I had my first subbing experiences. My first one was thankfully at the school where I already have worked for three years as a lunch, recess, and kindergarten helper. I laid out my clothes the night before, packed my lunch, and only slept for a couple hours. The next morning, I showed up much earlier than I normally would for work and in a much fancier outfit: a newly acquired, kelly-green skirt from Anne Taylor LOFT, a classic, ruffly white shirt from J. Crew, a delightfully flowered cardigan (also from J.Crew), and a new, future-teacher gift from Momma: a pair of gorgeous, caramel-colored pumps from Ralph Lauren. The day went very well; I worked with different groups of kiddos, many of whom I already knew from work. For lunch, I sat with the teacher with whom I shared a room and she just happened to have been a Kappa at KSU. We shared stories and laughed over how much things have (and haven’t) changed. Overall, it was a wonderful first day of subbing :)

This weekend was also full of exciting events; both Kappa Mom’s Weekend and Beta Dad’s Weekend (the fraternity that one of my younger brothers pledged at KSU) happened to fall on this weekend and it couldn’t have been any more perfect! B and I picked up M&D from the airport and went straight to a delicious dinner at Harry’s. The next day consisted of shopping, cheering on the Cats and realizing that just because you sit on the alumni side doesn’t mean you’ll sit the whole game (this was reassuring), silent auction acquisitions, helping B dress up as one of the Seven Dwarfs for a date party, dinner with friends, coffee with friends from far away, and lots of laughter. It’s hard to believe that it’s my last Mom’s Weekend; it feels like just yesterday I was bringing M up here for the first time, through all the snow and slush to meet these amazing women I now call some of my best friends.

I would say that, even though parts of the week/weekend were exhausting and stressful, it was generally an absolutely fabulous time.

Title of this post: Playing Catch-Up
I have been severly neglegent of my little Love and Freckles lately. I guess in my mind I feel like I can’t really post unless I have something epic to say, but the more Tumblrs I look at, the more I realize that my favorite posts are the little blubs about the person’s day and what’s going on in his or her life.
So, instead of a giant post about my life, here’s a picture collage of things I’ve baked, things I’m pining for, and things I’m looking forward to:
1. Big statement necklaces have been the last couple of my recent purchases. I’m finding that, paired with a plain t and some skinny jeans, they can really make an outfit fun.
2. A striped, mustard yellow sundress that I want before summertime.
3. Some incredibly colorful wedges that need to find their way to my closet before the Bahamas in March.
4. Mini Apples Pies that were a huge success with the roomies. Baked apples, wrapped in pie crust, lathered in butter, sugar, and cinnomin.
5. A Steve Madden beauty that will be bought with my babysitting/work money very soon.
6. A Blue-Door Boutique maxi dress in my favorite color.
7. A Kate Spade Weekender bag that’s on my grown-up wish list.
8. An imitation, So Long Saloon Raspberry Bean Dip that was also a hit with the roomies.
9. A breezy, pink dress. Bahamas please.
10. Beauty and The Beast 3D tonight with the little girl I’m babysitting for? Yes indeed.
11. See #1
12. Just purchased a raspberry colored skirt like this from gap. Eager to be the best dressed nanny this summer for Trip and Taylor.
Just a quick overview of some things that have brightened some dreary days.
